Detlef Kamke
Detlef Kamke (born August 12, 1922 in Hagen ; † August 3, 2004 ) was a German experimental nuclear physicist . He was a professor at the Ruhr University in Bochum .
He was the son of the mathematician Erich Kamke and the Jewish merchant's daughter Dora Heimowitch. He grew up in Tübingen . Despite being drafted as a soldier in the French campaign in 1939, he was able to begin studying physics, mathematics and chemistry at the University of Tübingen in 1941 . Kamke continued his studies at the University of Göttingen , where he obtained his diploma in physics from Wilhelm Walcher in 1946 . In 1947 he followed Walcher to the University of Marburg , where he received his doctorate in 1949 ( on the mechanism of the canal discharge ). At that time he was involved in the development of electron and ion sources and was involved in the construction of a 200 kV accelerator, with which he studied nuclear reactions, for example building the scintillation detectors himself. This resulted in his habilitation in 1958.
From 1963 he was a full professor for experimental physics at the newly founded Ruhr University Bochum; he had previously turned down a call to the TU Berlin. In Bochum he helped to set up experimental physics, as well as the DTL (Dynamitron Tandem Accelerator) opened in 1973. Kamke was dean and prorector several times.
From the beginning of the 1960s he also dealt with the application of methods of nuclear physics as a measurement method in solid state physics.
