Hartwig Freieleben (born January 26, 1942 in Kassel ) is a German physicist and researched and taught as a professor of nuclear physics at the TU Dresden .

Life

Hartwig Freieleben studied physics at the Philipps University of Marburg from 1961 to 1966 . There he received his doctorate in 1970 on the subject of the investigation of the nucleus 16N with the two-nucleon transfer reaction 14C (3He, p) 16N . Before he was appointed to the professorship for nuclear physics at the Ruhr-Universität Bochum in 1979, he was a research assistant at the University of Marburg and the Society for Heavy Ion Research and carried out research at the Nuclear Structure Research Laboratory, University of Rochester , Rochester, NY , USA. During this time he completed his habilitation in 1974.

From 1993, Freieleben was Professor of Nuclear Physics at the TU Dresden. After his appointment in Dresden, he worked from October 1993 to May 1997 as Vice Dean of the Department of Physics. He then worked as dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences until May 2000 and was a member of the Faculty Council and the Council from May 1994 to May 2003. From May 1994 he was a member of the Physics Commission. Free life retired in 2007.

Research priorities

His research focuses on hadron physics , fusion neutrons, heavy ion physics and nuclear reaction mechanisms .

Memberships

Hartwig Freiesleben is a member of the German Physical Society . There he is active in the hadrons and nuclei committee of the professional association. He is a member of the Program Advisory Committee at the COZY cooler synchrotron . From 1988 to 1993 he was there also in the coordination committee experiments / accelerators (KEB).

In 2006, Freieleben was chairman of the Nuclear Physics Board (NPB) of the European Physical Society . He still belongs to the NPB. He is also the representative of the NPB at PANS ( Public Awareness of Nuclear Science ).
