Detlef Schmidt (swimmer)

Detlef Schmidt (born October 7, 1959 ) is a former German swimmer. He participated in the Summer Paralympics in 1992 , 1996 and 2000 .

Life

Schmidt has an amputation of his left thigh and competed for the Magdeburg Association for Sports Therapy and Disabled Sports in 1980 (VSB 1980). He swam freestyle over 100 and 400 meters, 100 meters chest, 100 meters back and 200 meters medley. At the 1992 Paralympics in Barcelona he won gold in the 100 meter medley relay and silver in 100 meters back. He was also successful in Atlanta in 1996 . He won gold again with the 100 meter medley relay and this time with the 100 meter freestyle relay. He won bronze in the 100 meter back discipline. At the 1998 World Cup he won silver over 100 meters back.

Awards

In 2001 Schmidt signed the city of Magdeburg's Golden Book .
