Detlef Tanke (born March 3, 1956 in Hillerse ) is a German politician ( SPD ). From 2008 to 2017 he was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament and from April 2013 to April 2018 he was the first general secretary of the SPD Lower Saxony.

Life

Tanke graduated from high school in 1974 and then did military service. He then studied to become a teacher from 1976 to 1981 and passed the second state examination in 1983. He then completed a distance learning course as a management assistant until 1985, while working as a commercial clerk in the grocery trade. He then worked for Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg in Salzgitter from 1986 to March 2008. Since 1998 he has been Deputy Chairman of the Works Council at Volkswagen. Tanke is a member of IG Metall and the AWO. Tanke is married and has two children. He is also a member of the board of directors of Deutsche BKK.

Tanke joined the SPD in 1977. From 1977 to 1987 and from 1993 to 2002 he was chairman of the Hillerse SPD local association . From 1979 to 1985 and from 1989 to 2015 he was a member of the board of the SPD sub-district Gifhorn , since 2003 as sub-district chairman. Tanke has been a member of the executive board of the SPD district of Braunschweig since 2002, and has been deputy district chairman since 2007. Detlef Tanke has also been a member of the board of the Lower Saxony SPD state association since 2007, and has been Secretary General of the state party since 2013.

Tanke has been a councilor since 1981 and mayor of the Hillerse community since 1996. Since 1981 he has also been a member of the district assembly of the Gifhorn district , for many years as chairman of the SPD district assembly. Tanke has been a member of the association assembly of the " Greater Braunschweig " association since 1996 , from 2001 to 2006 and since 2011 as its chairman.

In the 2008 and 2013 elections , Tanke entered the Lower Saxony state parliament via the SPD's state list. From 2008 to 2013 he was deputy chairman of the SPD parliamentary group. He did not run again in the 2017 state elections .
