Detlev Kittstein

Detlev Kittstein (born February 24, 1944 in Sprottau , Lower Silesia , † May 3, 1996 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German athlete and Olympic champion in hockey .

Kittstein took part with the German national hockey team in the 1968 Summer Olympics, in which the team took fourth place. In 1970 he won the title with the German team at the first European championship in field hockey. Two years later he and the team won the gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich.

For winning the gold medal at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, he received the silver laurel leaf on May 25, 1972.

Overall, Kittstein acted as a striker from 1965 to 1973 in 68 international matches. In 1969 and 1970 he became German champion in 1880 with the SC Frankfurt club .

From 1969 until his death in 1996, Kittstein was a physical education teacher at the Heinrich-von-Gagern-Gymnasium in Frankfurt am Main , where he had already graduated from high school in 1967. In 2007 the school's gymnasium was named Kittsteinhalle in memory of him .
