Whitish detritus in tonsillitis

As detritus ( latin detritus waste ") is referred to in medicine in cell and tissue destruction resulting slurry, structureless and mostly fatty masses. Detritus can occur with death ( necrosis ) or inflammation- related purulent melting of cell aggregates such as abscesses or in the depressions of the tonsils in chronic tonsillitis ( tonsillitis ). However, this must not be misinterpreted as acute tonsillitis, since the development of the detritus is also a normal physiological process. This means that detritus is released in the form of almond plugs from the crypts when they are full. It then usually contains food particles, epithelial cells and leukocytes .
