The Deubener Kohlenbahn , also known as the Augustusschacht branch line, was a standard-gauge industrial line in what is now the Freital city area. It branched off in Döhlen from the Albertsbahn Dresden – Tharandt and led to the coal expedition of the Augustus shaft in Deuben . After a renovation of the facilities as a result of the expansion of the main line from Dresden to Tharandt to four tracks, the coal branch line was incorporated into the newly created industrial tracks DWIV and DWIL until 1913. The most recently as siding operated industrial railways were abandoned in 2002 due to the track improvements at the main railway Dresden-Werdau and dismantled shortly thereafter.

history

Deuben coal railway (around 1881)

The Deubener coal railway was built in 1855–56 in connection with the construction of the Albertsbahn from Dresden to Tharandt and went into operation on June 2, 1856. It had its end point directly on the left bank of the Weißeritz at the Augustusschacht in Deuben. At first there were no other affiliates.

After the Augustus shaft was closed in November 1893, the power station for Plauenschen Grund was built on the shaft site and went into operation on August 16, 1896. In 1906 the Deuben freight railway , a meter-gauge freight tram , was connected to the Döhlener coal railway. The Egermühle and the Sohre leather factory received jacked up standard gauge wagons via this railway . A planned extension of this narrow-gauge freight tram system along the city-gauge tram was not implemented.

By 1900 the previous double-track line between Dresden and Tharandt had reached its capacity limit. In 1901, planning began for a four-track expansion of the Dresden – Tharandt line, which was finally implemented in sections in connection with the general renovation of the Dresden railway systems. By raising the route to a dam, the level crossings could be replaced by level-free crossings. The new passenger train tracks between Potschappel and Tharandt went into operation on April 18, 1905, the freight train tracks followed on October 26 and 29, 1910.

To connect the numerous industrial connections, the new building office provided industrial tracks on both sides of the new route. Web links originated the industrial track DWIL ( " D resden- W erdau I ndustriegleis L inks") which is the earlier Deubener carbon car to Augustus shaft (DWA-line) einbezog. An extension of the track to the north led to the glass works of AG für Glasindustrie vorm. Friedrich Siemens , where the zero kilometer and thus the nominal start of the route was. This made the DWIL industrial track the only railway line in Saxony with the start and end points at private sidings. On the right of the Dresden – Werdau railway line was the DWIR industrial track , which established a continuous connection to Potschappel and Hainsberg. Both industrial railways were connected by the short DWIV connecting track.

When the power station for Plauenschen Grund was given up in 1929, one of the most important connections on the line, which had previously provided a steady volume of goods in the coal receiving area, disappeared. The short section from the Deuben tram station to the power station was dismantled in 1977; the last user of the connection was VEB Entstaubungstechnik Freital, previously Max and Ernst Hartmann Economiserwerk. The tram crossing on Dresdner Strasse , which had increasingly become a traffic obstacle , also disappeared .

After the Deuben freight railway was closed in November 1972, only the glassworks remained as a noteworthy connection to the line. Until the beginning of the 1990s, the glass factory was regularly served with handovers, then traffic came to a complete standstill. On December 3, 2002, the industrial tracks DWIV and DWIR were closed and demolished a little later.
