The German-Mongolian Academy of Materials, and Technology / German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT, Mongolian Монгол Германы хамтарсан, ашигт малтмал технологийн их сургуульд Mongol Gjermany chamtarsan aschigt, maltmal I tjechnologiin surguuljd) is a university in Mongolia , by was founded jointly by the governments of Germany and Mongolia. The state treaty for this was signed in October 2011 by the Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel . Classes started in 2013 with 35 students. aims

As a state university, the GMIT aims to combine a new quality of education with the claim of leading international standards and establish it in Mongolia. The development of the country is to be advanced in the field of raw material technology and teaching and research are to be combined.

Education

The GMIT currently offers four Bachelor degrees: B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, B.Sc. in Industrial Engineering, B.Sc. in Environmental Engineering and B.Sc. in Raw Materials & Process Engineering. In addition, the GMIT offers an Executive MBA in 'International Management of Resources and Environment' ("green" MBA), which bridges the gap between business, science and environmental protection. Classes in the Bachelor and Master programs are given by German experts, as well as Mongolian scientists who have completed their Ph.D. acquired abroad, in Germany or the United States .

The international character of the university is one of the key characteristics of the GMIT. English is used as the language of instruction and European Credit Transfer System points are used for assessments. In addition, great emphasis is placed on application and interdisciplinary research in the field of environmental sciences. Research projects include GLEAR - Clean Air for Gers , Integrated Water Resource Management , Integrated Water Resource Management ), Further Development of Air Quality Monitoring in Ulaanbaatar (further development of air quality measurement), Environmental Impacts of Small Scale Mining in Nalaikh (environmental changes caused by small Mining operations in Nalaikh ), Optimization of the Value Chain for Polymineral Ores of Economically Strategic Metals (optimization of the quality chain for polymineral ores of economic-strategic metals), Thermal Coatings for Tribologically Highly Loaded Machine Parts, temperature protection cladding for tribological highly charged machine parts , Sulfur Removal Process of Coal by Using an efficient Electromechanical Method (desulfurization of coal by efficient electrochemical methods . In 2018, the GMIT expanded its research activities by establishing a Strategic Research Development Fund (Forschun funds funds).

GMIT students must provide evidence of internships in order to gain experience in international and local companies and organizations. More than 50 organizations are currently working with the GMIT in this field.

GMIT also maintains close relationships with six German universities and receives support from the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports , the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). On April 17, 2018, the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industries agreed a memorandum of cooperation with the German Reconstruction Loan Corporation (KfW) to expand the campus.
