organization

In 1992 the program was donated by the German Federal Government . Although the funds are provided exclusively by the federal government, the funds are administered by the UNHCR and allocated to the refugees. In 2007 more than 1,012 students from 35 different countries received direct help. In 2008, more than 1,700 refugees will be funded worldwide because the federal government was able to increase the budget.

aims

Refugees are trained in their respective host countries with a scholarship at the local universities and colleges in order to be able to contribute to the positive development of the respective crisis region when they return to their home country. The declared goals therefore include:

  • to develop the human capital among the refugees so that they can contribute to the reconstruction of their homeland
  • the student should contribute to the positive development in his home country beginning to take hold
  • the scholarship holder should act as a role model for other refugees on their return and encourage them to study
  • the graduates should be able to render a service to the community of refugees

For this purpose, the students are supported primarily in the fields of education and pedagogy, trade and economics, health and social services, mathematics and computer science, engineering, agriculture, fish and forestry.
