history

The idea of founding the Deutsche Bläserphilharmonie was born in the early 1990s when the two conductors Michael Kummer and David Gilson worked together with Eckhard Braun , the founder of the Eifeler Musiktage, with their musical training courses. The aim was to offer the many highly qualified wind players and percussionists in the academies a forum on a professional level, well beyond the course orchestra.

This is how the ensemble was constituted in January 1992. Since then, regular, intensive work phases have been initiated every year in which the seasonal program was rehearsed and performed in several concerts .

The first CDs "collage" and "mirror" as well as the CD "live" with concert recordings from the years 1999 to 2003 were created in 1998 and 2001 in studio recordings from the compositions. At the invitation of the international music publisher De Haske, "Between the Two Rivers «and in the spring of 2005» windscapes «recorded two further CDs with current compositions. The highlights include appearances with the euphonium soloist Stephen Mead, guest appearances in Metz and Luxembourg, and especially the joint concert with the clarinetist Giora Feidman in the Gewandhaus in Leipzig .

In 2005 the German Wind Philharmonic Orchestra was awarded the gold medal in the highest category when it first took part in the World Music Contest in Kerkrade .

In 2007 the DBP reached 2nd place in the concert division at the Dutch Open Championships (Mini-WMC).

In 1995 the association Eifeler Musiktage eV took over the sponsorship, since 2001 the orchestra has been supported by the Förderverein Deutsche Bläserphilharmonie.

Philip Sparke , one of the world's most played composers for symphonic wind orchestras, says about the orchestra: "... I must write to thank you and the band for such a great recording session. I was SO impressed with the quality of playing and the attitude of the players. The band is unique, I think. Please pass my thanks on to them once more and I hope we can do it again ... "

The conductors were Michael Kummer and David Gilson from 1992 to 2003. Walter Ratzek has been a conductor since 2003 .
