The German Bracke is a German dog breed recognized by the FCI ( FCI Group 6, Section 1.3, Standard No. 299 ).
Origin and history
The German Bracken Club, founded in Olpe in 1896 , brought together the then still existing Northwest German Bracken breeds . Since 1900 the unit type has been officially called "Deutsche Bracke". Colloquially, after the former main distribution area, the terms "Olper Bracke", " Sauerländer Bracke " or "Westfälische Bracke" are still used.
description
The German Bracke is a lighter, more elegant, high-legged and strong dog with a proud head posture. The height at the withers is up to 53 cm. For a short-haired dog, the hair is long, very thick, hard, almost foxed in red to yellow with a black saddle or coat and the white bracken markings: continuous blaze , white muzzle with neck ring, white chest, white tip of the tail. Its ears are long (about 14 cm) and wide (about 9 cm); well fitting, rounded at the bottom.
use
Since the bracken hunt for foxes and hares is hardly carried out any more due to legal regulations ( BJagdG § 19), the main area of application of the German bracke as a hunting dog is now the browsing for hoofed game.
