The German Glastechnische Gesellschaft eV (DGG) is a non-profit association based in Offenbach am Main , which deals with the promotion of knowledge in the field of glass production and processing.

history

In addition to the thermal engineering advice center of the German Glass Industry (WBG), which later became the Metallurgical Technical Association of the German Glass Industry (HVG) , there was a need for a scientifically oriented organization in the German glass industry .

The founding of the Deutsche Glastechnische Gesellschaft was decided on July 9, 1922 by a commission of the Association of Glass Industries, in order to enable a network of people who deal with glass-technical problems. The tasks of the company should be the expansion of knowledge, the organization of conferences and specialist committees, the expansion of specialist literature and the maintenance of training. In 1924 the first three technical committees were founded, the first glass technology conference was held and specialist literature was published in the form of the monthly magazine "Glastechnischeberichte".

The reduced activity of the DGG due to the war came to a complete standstill in 1944. In 1948, at the 16th ordinary general meeting, it was decided to restart the work of the society. A re-establishment was not necessary, since the DGG had evaded integration into the NS-Bund Deutscher Technik during the National Socialist era .

In 1957, the “House of Glass Technology” in Bockenheimer Landstrasse in Frankfurt's Westend was opened as the first branch owned by HVG and DGG. The joint offices had previously only been rented. The company has been based in Siemensstrasse in Offenbach am Main since 2003.

profile

The Deutsche Glastechnische Gesellschaft maintains various areas of activity. There are specialist committees that deal with the subject areas assigned to them in glass production and processing.

The current technical committees are titled as follows:

  • II. Glass melting technology
  • IV. Glass shaping technology and quality assurance
  • V. Glass history and glass design
  • VI. environmental Protection

In addition, there are other working groups and groups that deal with specific topics.

The DGG meets annually at different locations in Germany. There are also occasional cooperative annual meetings with foreign glass societies.
