Individual activities

The association acquires funds for applied pneumological research , promotes young scientists with a doctoral award and translates recommendations and guidelines of the scientific society into a layman's language; it also helps spread them. In accordance with its guideline of October 8, 2007, it helps with research projects and academic exchanges through grants and grants for projects and trips. It also promotes the dissemination of pneumological topics in the lay media through the Wilhelm and Ingeborg Roloff Prize for Journalists, which is announced every two years. It is named after the TB researcher Wilhelm Roloff and his wife and, always donated by their four sons, was awarded for the twelfth time on March 15, 2019 at the 60th annual congress of the German Society for Pneumology and Respiratory Medicine in Munich. The coordinator of the jury is the medical journalist Eckart Roloff .

The association carries out prevention projects for adults, children and adolescents, organizes patient congresses, works with the pneumologically-oriented self-help groups and organizations (for example by publishing the white paper on self-help groups in Germany) and offers practical support for regional information events. The writer Peter Härtling supported the foundation on a voluntary basis as an "ambassador" from 2012 until his death in 2017.

The association maintains a free expert advice on the Internet for all those affected by lung and respiratory diseases. It also publishes the members' magazine "Lunge, Luft & Leben" twice a year. The magazine provides information on the diagnosis and therapy of lung and respiratory diseases, prevention measures, education for children and adolescents, as well as its own creative competitions (mostly for schools) and local activities. This is often supported by educational work and CO measurements of the exhaled air. With her “White Book Lung”, which has already been published in four editions, most recently in March 2014, she drew attention to the deficient position of pulmonology in Germany.
