The German School of the Borromean Sisters in Alexandria ( Arabic المدرسة الألمانية للقديس سان شارل بورومي بالإسكندرية) Is a German- Egyptian meeting school , by the Federal Office of Administration is staffed in Cologne and financially supported. It is mostly visited by Egyptian girls who are partly Muslim, partly Christian. The Sisters of Mercy of St. Charles Borromeo based in Kloster Grafschaft .

The German School of the Borromean Sisters in Alexandria was founded in 1884 and was initially a teaching institution for Germans and Austrians whose fathers were employed in the construction of the port in Alexandria. With the expansion of the range of female students, a curriculum based on the model of a secondary school for girls was introduced in 1894.

After the German sisters were expelled in World War I , they resumed their work in Alexandria in 1922. Since 1924 they have been supported by teachers placed in Germany.

After the Second World War , the school also adopted Egyptian qualifications and Arabic became an official subject. In 1956 the first secondary school examination was held at the school. In 1967, students took the Egyptian Thanawaya Amma exam (Egyptian Abitur) for the first time .

Since 1980, the German School of the Borromean Women in Alexandria has been a recognized German school abroad that leads to a recognized German final examination ( German secondary school leaving certificate ). The German Abitur examination was introduced in 1993, and in 2007 the first female students passed the German Abitur examination for the first time.

In 2009, the German School is offering lessons from elementary school through to high school diploma or high school diploma for pupils from Alexandria. There is a kindergarten and a preschool, which Egyptian schoolgirls usually have to attend before they are admitted to the first grade. The language of instruction in most subjects is German. Lessons are held in Arabic only in Arabic, local Arabic studies and the Catholic religion.

At the school, teachers from Germany and Egypt teach in a 19th century building in the old town of Alexandria. A new building on the outskirts is planned. Around 800 students are currently attending the German Borromean School in Alexandria.

From September 2008 to July 2011 Hubert Müller was the headmaster at DSB Alexandria. Wolfgang Mager has headed DSB Alexandria since August 2011.
