The German Tinnitus League e. V. (DTL) based in Wuppertal represents the interests of patients with tinnitus , acute hearing loss , hyperacusis , Menière's disease and other hearing impairments as well as their relatives as a non-profit patient organization .

The approximately 12,000 members also include around 800 specialists such as scientists, ENT specialists, hearing care professionals, psychologists and therapists as supporting members, from whose knowledge and experience those affected benefit. In addition, around 80 self-help groups in Germany are supported by the DTL, which was founded in Wuppertal in 1986.

tasks

Among other things, the association offers individual advice from experts on personal, therapeutic or social law issues in the form of doctor, psychologist and lawyer consultations. Furthermore, the members are supported in their choice of therapy and addresses of doctors and therapists are provided for them. The association also gives tips for an active and self-determined life. Its members receive information on the current state of science and new therapies through the quarterly magazine Tinnitus Forum as well as through special member information and brochures. The association also provides information about tinnitus symptoms in events. In around 80 self-help groups nationwide, those affected can exchange ideas with other affected persons. There are also seminars for DTL volunteers and group speakers for qualification. The DTL also participates in health policy discourses and is present in various bodies such as the Federal Joint Committee (G-BA) as a topic-related representation.

philosophy

As a nationwide association, the association represents the interests of all people affected by tinnitus, Menière's disease, acute hearing loss and hearing impairment , regardless of party political or denominational ties as a free self-help association. This representation of interests takes place on the basis of extensive democratic decision-making processes and is oriented in its task solely to the concerns of those affected.

The association intends to improve the health, social and legal aspects of those affected; informs the population, especially those affected, and offers appropriate education; promotes research, teaching and training to improve and disseminate knowledge of tinnitus; wants to raise public awareness of hearing itself and the astonishing abilities of the auditory capacity associated with it, in order to counteract the development of noises in the ears and hearing loss through preventive measures; advises its members on personal, professional and social law issues, also with the help of sponsoring members and friendly experts; offers decision support when choosing a therapy and clinic; promotes the exchange of experiences among those affected: in self-help groups or through their magazine Tinnitus-Forum.

Studies and participation in guideline commissions

The association is also networked through the technical advisory board and the technical sponsoring members in science and medicine. Members of the technical advisory board also belong to the guideline commissions for acute hearing loss and tinnitus. The DTL also regularly conducts studies on the subjects of tinnitus and self-help or participates in studies.
