The Deutsche Wolke is a project of the Cloud Computing working group of the Open Source Business Alliance based in Stuttgart . The Deutsche Wolke project was presented for the first time at CeBit 2011. The founding members of the initiative are the companies Boston Deutschland GmbH , Datera , Tarent GmbH , SEP AG and the system integrator Datenwerk .
aims
The primary goal of the initiative is to build a solution stack for a distributed cloud infrastructure based on open source in Germany. Lock-in effects are to be avoided by using open source software components . The operation takes place exclusively in German data centers. In this way, data protection problems such as those that can arise with US cloud providers (among other things because of the Patriot Act ) are avoided.
The German cloud regarded as an implementation of the concept of an open cloud as defined by the Open Cloud Principles (OCP) of the Open Cloud Initiative (OCI) . The OCPs require the use of open standards for which at least one open source reference implementation must be available.
Technologies
The Open Source Reference Stack of the Open Source Business Alliance forms the technical basis of Deutsche Wolke .
The following components are used at the infrastructure level (IaaS):
- OpenStack
- Ubuntu Linux
- SUSE Linux / SUSE Studio
- KVM as a hypervisor
- Univention Corporate Server (UCS)
At the application level (SaaS), the following applications are initially offered:
- Deskmate Desktop as a Service
- Zarafa Groupware
- Helium V ERP Suite
- Grau Data Space Fileshare & Sync solution
marketing
The cloud offerings are marketed through the hosting partners of the Working Group. The customer therefore does not conclude the usage contract with the software manufacturer, but directly with the hosting partner. The hosting partners can differentiate themselves in terms of location, service and price. The Working Group's hosting partners are currently:
- COMback GmbH
- Data work
- teuto.net
- bytemine GmbH
- globalways
- tocario GmbH
