German Challenger Yacht Club

On August 2, 2004 the German Challenger Yacht Club e. V. (DCYC) founded. Founding members are the North German Regatta Association , the Seglerhaus am Wannsee Association and the Bavarian Yacht Club .

The idea was to have a new club as a nationwide platform to carry out a German challenge for the America's Cup . Commodore became the German Olympic champion in Finn Willi Kuhweide , the deputy Commodore is the Commodore of the North German Regatta Club Günther Persiehl . In 2010 there were 42 member clubs in the DCYC.

The 32nd America's Cup could not be reached because the eliminations of the Louis Vuitton Cup were finished as the penultimate. For the next challenge, Jochen Schümann was signed up as team leader. At the 33rd America's Cup , too , the United Internet Team Germany failed to take part in the America's Cup.
