from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The German Club was a German-free parliamentary group in the Austrian House of Representatives . It existed from 1885 to 1888.

background

After the elections in 1885, a strong group separated from the United Left in order to represent the interests of the Germans within the Habsburg Monarchy more sharply against the government and the allegedly favored Slavs . On September 21, 1885, 38 MPs constituted the German Club . Most of the members came from Bohemia and Styria .

In February 1887 almost half of the parliamentary group - 18 members of the “left”, “social reformation” wing - left the German Club and formed the German National Association . In November 1888 the remaining rump of the German Club merged with the German-Austrian Club for the United German Left .
