The German Bicycle Museum gGmbH , which opened in 2004, is located in the Staatsbad Brückenau district of Bad Brückenau .
In the former Villa Füglein over 230 historical bicycles from the collection of Ivan Sojc are on display, making it the most comprehensive German bicycle collection and one of the largest bicycle collections in Europe. The history of bicycles from the walking machine around 1820 to the modern e-bike is presented on two floors .
Collection and museum history
In front of the German Bicycle Museum in Bad Brückenau, the collection of Ivan Sojc in Schönhofen in the Regensburg district was partially accessible to the public. In addition to his bike shop Radwerk , which he ran from 1991 to 2001, he also built up his collection. In 2002 his family moved to Bad Brückenau in order to run his collection as a museum full-time and professionally. With the help of his then partner Mona Buchmann, the Radwerk family business founded the German Bicycle Museum. The official opening took place in May 2004.
exhibition
Focus of the 500-square-foot permanent exhibition is the development history of the bicycle with more than 230 exhibits from the running machine , on high wheels to modern e-bikes . The following topics are also presented: road cycling , muscle-powered children's vehicles, motorized bicycles , military bicycles , advertising, bicycle accessories, associations, company history and the subject of “art and bicycles”. Three dioramas , a historic bicycle shop, a bicycle workshop from the 1930s and a club room complete the museum.
Building history "Villa Füglein"
The Villa Füglein was built in 1908 in the Art Nouveau style by Josef Füglein, a hotel owner from Brückenau, as an additional guesthouse, as the neighboring hotel, which had been in operation for a long time, had become too small with its 70 beds. The building was operated as a guesthouse by the Füglein family until 1972. It was then owned by the Free State of Bavaria until 2002 , which temporarily leased it. Mona Buchmann and Ivan Sojc bought the building in 2002, completely renovated it and have been running the German Bicycle Museum there since 2004.
