German Hydrological Yearbook
The German Hydrological Yearbook (DGJ) is a collection of data on hydrology in Germany that appears periodically in several sub-volumes .
development
First regional hydrological yearbooks in the 19th century
A regional hydrological yearbook was published in Hessen as early as 1851 . Others followed for Baden in 1883, Württemberg in 1884 and Bavaria in 1899.
Yearbook for the hydrology of Northern Germany
With the establishment of the Prussian State Institute for Hydrology , yearbooks with hydrological data were published for the first time for all major rivers in Northern Germany according to a uniform model. In 1904, the Mittler & Sohn publishing house in Berlin published the yearbook for the hydrology of northern Germany for the discharge year 1901.
It consisted of six booklets for the catchment areas :
- Book I: Memel, Pregel and Vistula region
- Book II: Oder area
- Book III: Elbe area
- Booklet IV: Weser and Ems area
- Book V: Rhine area
- Book VI: Coastal area of the Baltic and North Sea
36 volumes appeared under this name.
Yearbook of hydrology of the German Empire
The data for the years 1937 to 1940 were published under the title "Yearbook of Hydrology of the German Reich". This work was divided into seven "river areas" and a "general part".
German Hydrological Yearbook
From the year of discharge from 1941 to 1955, the data of the German waters were published in 11 sub-volumes as well as a regional supplement under the name "Deutsches Gewässerkundliches Jahrbuch". The data of the levels in the GDR area were summarized in a separate annual volume by the Meteorological and Hydrological Service of the German Democratic Republic .
The reporting periods 1956 to 1958 are in a slightly different division compared to the 15 years before.
From 1959, the GDR finally went its own way, so that two German yearbooks were now published, namely the GDR Hydrological Yearbook (as a regional yearbook) and the German Hydrological Yearbook (DGJ) with a general part, six river basin partial volumes and regional supplementary books.
From 1967 to 1989 the DGJ appeared in seven river basin sub-volumes. Since that time, each state and the federal government have been producing the DGJ pages for the data of their responsibility themselves and delivering them to the respective publisher ready for printing.
From the 1990 annual volume, the DGJ appears annually in ten sub-volumes:
- Danube area - Ed .: Bavaria. ISSN 0340-5176

The DGJ contains both daily values and statistical evaluations of the measuring points, i. H. Main values, duration tables and extreme values. The publication is mainly in tabular form, for individual stations also in graphic form. In the table section the water levels (W), runoffs (Q), water temperatures (TW) and suspended matter data (S) are published.
