The German Patent Information System , DEPATIS for short , is a search system for patent documents of the German Patent and Trademark Office . Access is now via the electronic DEPATISnet .

Extent of the database

DEPATIS enables you to search in

  • all German patent documents since 1877 (patents, published patent applications , Auslegeschriften , utility models);
  • most of the patent documents of the other major patent offices in the world. Including:
    • USA from 1790
    • Switzerland from 1888
    • France and Great Britain from 1920
    • Korea from 1970
    • Japan (English abstracts) from 1976

The beginning of 2014, a total of 88 million documents on DEPATIS visible, of which 60% as a PDF - facsimile (photographic image) are present.

history

DEPATIS was put into operation at the end of 1998. At first it was only accessible to the patent examiners within the office. With the introduction of DEPATISnet in 2000, public access was also set up. Since 2004, the German patent documents, which the German Patent and Trademark Office publishes every week, are no longer displayed as printed sheets in the display halls, but only kept electronically.
