The German Foundation Center GmbH (DSZ) is a service company based in Essen . It advises around 600 non-profit and benevolent foundations with assets totaling over 2.7 billion euros (as of 2016). The annual funding volume of the members amounts to around 120 million euros (as of 2016).

As part of the establishment, advice and administration of foundations, the clients are involved in the development of programs and funding instruments as well as in the tendering of projects, grants and prizes. It prepares and follows up meetings, pays out subsidies and controls the approved projects, takes on accounting and reporting, as well as foundation supervision and financial management, the processing of asset transfers, asset investments, public relations and management.

Events

A major event for donors is organized every year. Every three years (most recently in 2012), the Founders Day takes place with specialist lectures, a forum for the exchange of donors with one another and a reception at the Federal President. The donor dialogue takes place in the remaining years, most recently in November 2013. In addition, there are several event formats on relevant and current topics in the foundation sector, which are held nationwide several times a year.

German Foundation Academy

The German Foundation Academy (DSA) was created as an institution of the Stifterverband with its German Foundation Center and the Federal Association of German Foundations. The focus of the educational work lies in seminars, workshops and congresses as well as in certification courses for foundation advisers and foundation managers. Speakers from the Stifterverband and the German Foundation Center convey essential content and a. on foundation management as well as on legal questions of foundation activities.
