The German Dance Sport Badge (DTSA) is an award that is awarded after an examination by the state dance sport associations of the German Dance Sport Association . It exists in four different levels that can be acquired one after the other:

  • Bronze - For the German Dance Sport Badge in bronze, three dances must be tested, whereby at least four figures must be shown in each dance.
  • Silver - For the dance sport badge in silver, four dances must be tested, whereby at least six figures must be shown in each dance.
  • Gold - Five dances must be tested for each of the gold badges, with at least eight figures showing in each dance.
  • Brilliant - Six dances must be tested for each of the badges in brilliant, with at least ten figures showing in each dance.

At least 4 months must have passed between the bronze test and the silver test. This also applies to the period between the silver test and the first gold test.

The gold test can be repeated annually, which is indicated by a wreath ("Gold with wreath") on the second repetition and after the 10th, 15th, 20th etc. acceptance with an additional number ("Gold with wreath and number" ) is made clear on the badge.

The examinee may choose the dances himself and dance to his own music. The following dances can be tested: slow waltz , line dance , tango , Viennese waltz , slowfox , quickstep , samba , cha-cha-cha , rumba , paso doble , jive , discofox , salsa , tango argentino and new vogue dances. Upon request to the DTV representative, other dances can also be examined.

Musicality, balance and movement are assessed. There is no evaluation in the form of grades or points. If the examiner considers a performance to be insufficient, the couple is allowed to show a substitute dance that they have not yet shown.

Others

The German dance sport badge does not compete with the German dance badge . There are two independent badges. However, the German dance sport badge is on a par with the German sport badge issued by the German Olympic Sports Confederation and is therefore officially promoted. Various health insurance companies also recognize it in their bonus system.
