Deutschmeister anniversary march

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Deutschmeister Jubilee March is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 470). The work was performed for the first time on September 9, 1896 in Vienna's Prater .

Remarks

The march was composed on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the kuk infantry regiment "Hoch- und Deutschmeister" No. 4 . At the beginning of September 1896, celebrations took place in honor of the regiment, which was very popular in Vienna, and a joint concert by seven military bands in Gabor Steiner's Prater establishment in Venice was scheduled for September 9th . On this occasion, compositions by well-known Viennese musicians of the time were performed. This also included the Deutschmeister Jubilee March, which, however, was not conducted by the composer. At the time, he was in Bad Ischl. On October 18, 1896, the march was conducted by Eduard Strauss in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein . In contrast to some of the marches dedicated to the Austro-Hungarian Infantry Regiment Hoch- und Deutschmeister No. 4 , this march went unnoticed by the public in the long run. It is not one of the best-known and most popular compositions by Johann Strauss.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 2 minutes and 50 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
