The German-speaking Mykological Society (DMykG) eV is a recognized non-profit association . The company was founded in 1961 as a forum for all scientists of the German-speaking world, working for the Mycology under human- or veterinary interest aspects, so the medical mycology and veterinary mycology. A main task is to promote science and research. The association is based in Essen .

The society, which currently has around 500 members (as of 2016), holds annual meetings on this. These multi-day events are known as Myk. The working groups for "Clinical Mycology" and for "Mycological Laboratory Diagnostics" make a significant contribution to the work of society.

The scientific publication organ is the mycoses Journal , which is published in English . Its editors are Oliver A. Cornely , Jacques PGM Meis, and Martin Schaller. In addition, there is the science magazine MYKOLOGIE FORUM as the company's communication organ . This is published twice a year as an e-paper. The company offers a mycology portal on the Internet.

Mycological quality management is another focus of activity . The development of guidelines and recommendations plays a key role in this . Currently, under the umbrella of the Working Group of Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF), of which the German-speaking Mycological Society is a member, six guidelines are provided, namely " Tinea of the free skin", " Onychomycosis ", " Vulvovaginal candidiasis ", " Candidiasis of the skin", " Oral candidiasis ”,“ Tinea capitis ”.

The association cooperates internationally with the International Society for Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM), with the Austrian Society for Medical Mycology eV (ÖGMM) and the European Confederation of Medical Mycology (ECMM).

Particular importance is attached to promoting young talent. Among other things, the annual award of the research award and the award for young talent serves this purpose.

In order to safeguard its work, the society set up the foundation of the German-speaking Mycological Society. This annually awards publication prices and poster prices.
