Devil Hunter Yohko

Devil Hunter Yohko ( Jap. 魔物ハンター妖子 , Mamono Hanta Yōko ) is a 1990 published Magical Girl - Anime series of Japanese animation studio Madhouse . The series is mainly in the horror area, but also contains numerous ecchi components.

action

Sixteen-year-old Yohko Mano ( 真 野 妖 子 , Mano Yōko ) is the youngest member of a centuries-old family of demon hunters. As the tradition of the Manos would have it, the honorable office is passed on from generation to generation, from mother to daughter. It would have been up to Yohko's mother Sayoko to reveal the mystery of her destiny to her daughter, but due to a violation of the family code, Sayoko herself was never allowed to receive the holy powers and take her place in the line of demon hunters. In their place, Grandmother Madoka, 107th demon hunter, introduces Yohko to the secrets of her magical legacy and makes Yohko the 108th Mamono Hunter .

But Yohko is not alone in the fight against evil: by her side are Azusa Kanzaki - a distant cousin of Yohko - and her best friend Chikako Ogawa, who is also a self-proclaimed Devil Hunter manager .

And grandmother Madoka also proves to be extremely agile despite her biblical age and helps her granddaughter more than once out of a jam in seemingly hopeless, dicey situations with her spontaneous, action-packed performances.

The episodes do not have a continuous storyline, but there are storylines that are carried along from episode to episode and sometimes also supplemented and continued. So over all other tasks, the destruction of the "family enemy" is the top priority of the young demon hunter.

Characters

Yohko Mano

The fifteen year old Yohko at the beginning of the first episode is the main character of the series. Not knowing anything of her upcoming life task as 108th demon hunter, she lives the life of a very ordinary ( anime ) schoolgirl with everything that goes with it - while her grandmother has her hands full, raising her granddaughter as chastely as possible and her keep away from guys. Because only if Yohko remains a virgin until her sixteenth birthday can she become the 108th Devil Hunter. Initially skeptical, she quickly learns to deal with her newfound powers and honorably continues the age-old tradition of demon hunters.

Azusa Kanzaki

The hardworking Azusa is Yohko's younger cousin and at the same time her “student”. Even if she is not in the direct bloodline of the Manos, she learns everything from Yohko to become a demon hunter as well. Just like her master, Azusa has a special accessory to transform herself into a devil hunter: a magical glove that she received from Madoka, Yohko's grandmother. Unlike the reserved Yohko, Azusa is dying to mess with demons and really heat them up.

Chikako "Chi" Ogawa

Chi is Yohko's best friend and goes to the same school with her. Despite her young age, the sixteen-year-old is the official (self-appointed) Devil Hunter manager and diligently pursues her job as Yohkos organizer.

Sayoko Mano

Yohko's young mother. Actually, she should have taken her place as the 108th demon hunter, but during a brief love affair she lost innocence before she was fifteen - and with it the opportunity to become a devil hunter. Sayoko is not enthusiastic about the fact that her daughter is now also chosen as a demon hunter and tries at first with all means to couple Yohko with a boy in time to possibly save her a life as a demon hunter.

Madoka Mano

As the oldest member of the family and also the 107th Demon Hunter has spread not only countless wisdom, but gives twice on her granddaughter eight: At the beginning nor as chaperone is watching over Yohkos virginity them quickly to their trainer in terms of demon hunting. That Madoka is anything but a cozy grandmother, she also shows in her numerous daring appearances, in which she usually rushes to help Yohko with her racing motorcycle when she has taken over the fight against demons again.

Anime

The 6 OVA episodes were created between 1990 and 1995 under the direction of Yuji Takae and Katsuhisa Yamada . However, only five episodes advance the story, as episode 4 only contains music videos for the soundtrack. It was directed by Katsuhisa Yamada for episode 1, Hisashi Abe for episodes 2 and 3, and Akiyuki Shimbō for episode 6.

In 2001 there was also a release in Germany as Devil Hunter Yohko - Perfect Collection .
