Vishnu appears before Dhruva

Dhruva ( Sanskrit ध्रुव dhruva m. "Fixed") is a mythical ascetic and devotee of the god Vishnu in Hinduism . He became a polar star (then β UMi ) and belongs to the Vasus .

myth

Dhruva is the son of Uttanapada, a son of Manu Svayambhu , and Suniti. Suruchi - the other woman from Uttanapada - was the mother of Uttama. Suruchi treated Dhruva badly because she wanted only her son to become king. But Dhruva only wanted what he could gain on his own and went to school with sages , from whom he received the Dvadashaksharamantra . After he had meditated on Vishnu with this mantra for 3000 years in asceticism , he was transferred to the sky by him as a pole star as a sign of his firmness and stability in faith.
