Dhuusamarreeb (also spelled Dusa Marreb ) is a city in central Somalia . In 2007 it was estimated to have a population of around 30,000. It is the capital of the Galguduud region and has a hospital. Dhuusamarreeb is not far from the border with the Ethiopian Ogaden between the cities of Gaalkacyo and Beledweyne , with which the city is connected by a road.

The dominant clan in Dhuusamarreeb are the Habar-Gidr- Hawiye . Since the beginning of 2006, the city has been under the control of the Union of Islamic Courts .

In 2007, around 4,000–5,000 internally displaced families (24,000–30,000 people) from the state capital Mogadishu arrived in Dhuusamarreeb. This influx poses problems for the city and has led to rising prices for staple foods.

On May 1, 2008, the US carried out an air strike in Dhuusamarreeb, in which the leader of the Islamist al-Shabaab militia, Aden Hashi Ayro , and at least 15 civilians were killed.

On December 28, 2008, the moderate Islamist, Sufi -oriented group Ahlu-Sunna al-Jama Dhuusamarreeb took. In January 2010, the al-Shabaab militia retook the city. Almost 50 people were killed in the fighting.
