Dieters ( Dietarius ) were civil servants who were only employed temporarily and were paid outside the budget .

The name was particularly common in the Kingdom of Prussia . The dieters received their salaries on a monthly basis, rarely on a daily basis. They were not entitled to housing allowances , moving costs or similar benefits. The service contract could be terminated at any time.

Railroad workers and teachers often began their careers as dieters. In the school system of the Federal Republic of Germany , they corresponded in terms of service law to the assessors available for employment, e.g. A.
