Diet beer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Diet beer is low-carbohydrate beer . The term light beer or lite beer is occasionally used, which should not be confused with light beer or thin beer .

Diet beers are mostly produced as full beers with an original wort content of over 11%, they are also available as draft beers . Using a special brewing and fermentation process , the starch released from the malt is almost completely broken down.

This type of beer , which is especially suitable for diabetics, was developed by brewing scientist Joseph Owades , who worked as technical director at the Rheingold Brewery in New York. From 1967 the world's first diet beer was marketed there under the name Gablinger’s . Bud Light has been the leader in diet beers in the United States since 1994.

According to the Diet Ordinance in Germany (or comparable regulations in other European countries), diet beer under this name has no longer been permitted since 2012 .
