The German-Polish magazine DIALOG is a bilingual magazine that deals with the political, cultural and social development of German-Polish relations. The magazine sees itself as a "German-Polish agora in the center of Europe". The articles published in DIALOG are not limited to the German-Polish perspective. The bilateral issues will be integrated into a broader context of the political and cultural transformation of Europe. In recent years the magazine has also published key topics on the EU's eastern neighborhood , including Polish-Russian and Polish-Ukrainian relations.
The editorial office is based in Berlin. The magazine is published by the German-Polish Society Bundesverband eV, an umbrella organization of over 50 German-Polish associations.
The magazine was founded in 1987 as a German-language magazine in Hamburg. The first editors-in-chief were Günter Filter and the Polish publicist Adam Krzemiński . The bilingual publicist and political expert Basil Kerski has headed the magazine since 1998 .
In 1993 DIALOG was converted into a bilingual magazine. Since then, the Polish partner editorial team has been the renowned Gdańsk cultural and political magazine Przegląd Polityczny , which was founded in 1983 in the anti-communist underground by Donald Tusk and Wojciech Duda.
The magazine is financed through subscriptions and sales in both countries. DIALOG is financially supported by the Federal Foreign Office and the bilateral foundation for German-Polish cooperation .
As part of the work of the German-Polish Societies, the editorial team of the magazine also holds conferences and panel discussions and has been involved in the publication of numerous Polish and German books.
To mark the 20th anniversary of the magazine, the editorial team opened a traveling exhibition on the history of the publication.
The German-Polish magazine DIALOG has received the following awards in recent years:
- Georg Dehio Culture Prize (Honorary Prize) from the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe (2007).
- Special Prize from the Canadian-Polish Turzański Foundation (2007)
- Standard award 2009 from the Federal Agency for Civic Education (2009)
