With the Georg Dehio Culture Prize , the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe e. V. "special achievements in the research, preservation and presentation of evidence of the common cultural heritage in those regions of Eastern Europe, in which Germans have lived in the course of history, as well as outstanding commitment to mutual understanding and intercultural dialogue " (according to allocation guidelines ). The award is reminiscent of the German art historian Georg Dehio (1850–1932), who was born in Reval and whose eye for regional contexts and a feeling for the eventful history of historical monuments has set standards, which the work of the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe is also based on.

Georg Dehio Culture Prize

The Georg Dehio Prize is divided into two categories, the Georg Dehio Culture Prize and the Georg Dehio Book Prize . The award was given for the first time in 2003 and has been given annually since then, alternating between the two categories. The Georg Dehio Culture Prize is awarded to people, institutions and initiatives who deal in an exemplary manner with the traditions and interferences of German culture and history in Eastern Europe, in a future-oriented manner and in a partnership-based dialogue with their neighbors.

The Georg Dehio Culture Prize is divided into a main prize (€ 7,000) and a sponsorship prize (€ 3,000). The main prize is awarded to personalities for a life's work or institutions for particularly meritorious long-term work. The award is intended to honor outstanding innovative achievements in the cultural field.

The award ceremony takes place as part of a public ceremony and is accompanied by events with which the work of the award winners is presented and honored. "The aim is to make the field of work of the honorees known to a wider audience and at the same time to point out the traditions and interferences in the culture and history of Germans in Eastern Europe."

jury

An independent, international jury will decide on the award of the Georg Dehio Culture Prize. It is made up of well-known representatives from science (history, art and cultural history), monument preservation and museums as well as (cultural) politics.

The board of trustees of the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe advises and decides on the composition of the jury at the suggestion of the board. It consists of seven people. A representative sent by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media has a permanent seat on the jury, as does a representative of the institutions funded by the BKM that deal with the culture and history of Germans in Eastern Europe.
