Georg Dehio Book Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Georg Dehio Book Prize is a literary prize awarded to authors who "take up the issues of the common culture and history of the Germans and their eastern neighbors in their literary, scientific or journalistic work, reflect on them at a high level and convey them vividly to broad circles". It is organized every two years by the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe. V. and endowed by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) .

Georg Dehio Book Prize

The award is reminiscent of the German art historian Georg Dehio (1850–1932), who was born in Reval and whose eye for regional contexts and a feeling for the eventful history of historical monuments has set standards, which the work of the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe is also based on.

The prize is divided into a main prize of 7,000 euros and a sponsorship prize of 3,000 euros. The main prize honors the entire literary or journalistic work and life of an author. The sponsorship award, which is also intended especially for younger authors, is awarded to an outstanding publication, also of a scientific nature. If the winning work is a translation, the price can be shared between the author and the translator.

The Georg Dehio Book Prize was started in 2004 and is awarded every two years, alternating with the Georg Dehio Culture Prize , which began in 2003.

The award ceremony takes place as part of a public ceremony and is accompanied by events with which the work of the award winners is presented and honored. "The aim is to make the field of work of the honorees known to a larger audience and at the same time to point out the traditions and interferences in the culture and history of Germans in Eastern Europe".

jury

A jury whose members are appointed by the Board of Trustees of the German Cultural Forum for Eastern Europe on the proposal of the Board of Directors decides on the award of the Georg Dehio Book Prize. Renowned personalities from literary studies, publishing and journalism work together here. Permanent members of the jury are a representative sent by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and a representative of the institutions funded by the BKM that deal with the culture and history of Germans in Eastern Europe.
