Christoph Michael Klein (born November 20, 1937 in Hermannstadt ) was Bishop of the Evangelical Church AB in Romania until October 2010 .

biography

Klein studied Protestant theology in Cluj-Napoca and Sibiu and obtained the title of Doctor of Theology at the Protestant Theological Institute in Cluj-Napoca (1969). Klein held his first parish parish in Katzendorf in the Kronstadt church district . From 1972 to 1976 he was pastor of Sibiu.

From 1976 to 1990 he held the chair for systematic theology at the German-speaking Evangelical Theological Faculty in Sibiu, where he had already worked as a lecturer from 1968 to 1972; from 1978 to 1986 he was dean of the faculty.

In 1982 Klein was elected Episcopal Vicar of the Evangelical Church AB in Romania; In 1990 he succeeded his predecessor, Bishop Albert Klein, at the head of the Evangelical Church AB in Romania . In the same year, Klein received an honorary doctorate from the University of Vienna .

From 1994 he was vice-president of the Ecumenical Association of Churches in Romania Aidrom and since 2004 a member of the council and vice-president of the Lutheran World Federation (Geneva).

On October 16, 2010, Bishop Klein was ceremoniously retired in Sibiu. On November 27, 2010 Reinhart Guib was elected as his successor.

After the death of his first wife in 1985, Klein remarried in 1993; he has three children from his first marriage.

Honors

In 2000, Klein was made an honorary citizen of the city of Hermannstadt (Sibiu).

In 2000, Bishop Christoph Klein was awarded the National Order of Merit with the rank of high officer in a ceremony in the Cotroceni Palace in Bucharest.

In 2008, Bishop Klein was awarded the Honterus Medal by the board of the Transylvanian Forum during a ceremony in Biertan .

In 2008 he was awarded the Grand Cross of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in the ballroom of the Bishop's Palace in Sibiu.

In 2009, Bishop Klein received the Star of Honor of the Federation of Transylvanian Saxons during a festivity in the St. Pauls Church in Dinkelsbühl.

In 2010 Klein was presented with the Golden Badge of Honor of the Association of Transylvanian-Saxon Hometown Communities.

In 2011 he was awarded the Georg Dehio Culture Prize in Berlin.
