from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jaromír Švejdík (born October 14, 1963 in Jeseník ), pseudonym Jaromír 99 , is a Czech comic artist, painter and singer.

Life

Jaromír Švejdík started drawing comics at school. Later his interest in punk rock outweighed and he gave up drawing. He worked as a stoker in the Jeseník hospital. When the clinic switched from coal to gas heating, he had time during the night shifts and started drawing again. After he became a co-owner of a café after the Velvet Revolution and founded the Priessnitz band , drawing again only played a minor role in his life. After moving to Prague, he started drawing storyboards . Since then he has been increasingly active as a visual artist. Švejdík is a draftsman of various comic strips, his best known work is the graphic novel Alois Nebel , written together with Jaroslav Rudiš , which has since been made into a film . His latest project is the graphic novel version of Franz Kafka's Das Schloss . This was created for the English publisher SelfMadeHero in collaboration with the American writer David Mairowitz , who knew the graphic novel and the film Alois Nebel and suggested Švejdík for this project.

In addition, Švejdík is not only the singer of the Priessnitz band, but also a member and co-founder of the bands Umakart (since 2004) and Jaromír 99 & The Bombers (since 2007). In 1999 he began to use the stage name Jaromír 99 to separate his artistic work from the musical work, which he conducts under his real name.

Švejdík has a son and lives in Prague with his wife, the artist Johana Ziková.
