Diana Näcke

Diana Näcke (* 1974 in Schlema ) is a German author and director.

Diana Näcke studied journalism and theater studies at the University of Leipzig . Her cinema debut, the documentary My Freedom, Your Freedom , which was made in co-production with Das kleine Fernsehspiel (ZDF) and the Cologne film production Tag / Traum, tells the story of two women who, because of various offenses in the prison in Berlin Lichtenberg incarcerated, as well as through the director of the institution. He accompanies them both inside and outside the prison, but does not follow any chronological order, but puts the portrait together like a mosaic of various facets, thus reflecting the biographies marked by breaks.

The film was shown at various international film festivals (including RIDM Montreal, Berlinale, Hot Docs, and DOK.fest Munich) and was awarded several prizes (including the preselection of the German Film Prize, Audience Award, International Documentary Film Festival Brussels, Treatment Award from BR and Telepool GmbH). In 2012 it was released in German cinemas ( Edition Salzgeber ).

Näcke's second documentary followed in 2017. In The Ghosts That Called Me ... (Production: Indi Film Berlin) she accompanies the German-Turkish Engin, who travels to the place of his childhood, where he meets the demons of his family history and those of his homeland., The film had its German premiere in the documentary film competition of the Max Ophüls Preis film festival and was premiered internationally at the MARFICI film festival in Mar del Plata Argentina. The ghosts that called me ... received the Bremen Documentary Film Award, the 25p * cine grant and started in German cinemas in December 2017 (Barsteiner Film).

The creation of her third film, The fish knows everything ... , was funded by the Gerd Ruge grant in 2019 . the Film- und Medienstiftung NRW and the scholarship Haus am See (Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Lupa Film, Antonius Foundation). Näcke developed the material for the film during her eight-month stay at the Tarabya Cultural Academy The fish knows everything ... tells a modern fairy tale in which a dolphin heralds the impending doom of Istanbul.
