Dianous is a genus of beetles from the family of the short-winged (Staphylinidae) within the subfamily Steninae . In Europe it occurs only with Dianous coerulescens , which is also native to Central Europe.
features
The beetles are very similar to the genus Stenus , but differ from it in their blue-metallic color and a large instead of small red spot on the wing . Furthermore, they differ from members of the genus Stenus , which have the highest short eyelash hairs, in the long bristle hairs on the last abdominal segment .
Occurrence and way of life
The animals live at waterfalls, weirs and on sandy gravel banks of rivers.
