Dickson Despommier
Dickson D. Despommier (born June 5, 1940 in New Orleans , Louisiana ) is an American microbiologist, ecologist and professor emeritus of public health at Columbia University . He does research on intracellular parasitism and teaches about parasitic diseases and ecology. He became known to the general public through his ideas about vertical farming . He developed the concept in 1999 with students on a course on medical ecology.
Despommier also moderates two podcasts with Vincent Racaniello , TWIV (This Week in Virology) and TWIP (This Week in Parasitism).
After his bachelor's degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University (1962) Despommier made a 1964 master's degree at Columbia University and received his doctorate in 1967 at the University of Notre Dame for PhD .
