Didier Dufour (born April 25, 1952 in Barlin ) is a former French football player .

Career

As a teenager, Dufour was trained by the second division US Nœux-les-Mines until he was discovered in 1973 by the first division club FC Sochaux and accepted directly into the professional team. After sporadic appearances in his first season, it was above all the departure of his teammate Albert Vanucci that allowed him to secure a regular place in the course of his second year. He kept this role for years, in which his club achieved various results between a third place and a narrowly missed relegation.

Despite his continued position in the first team, he decided in 1979 to move to the second division club CS Thonon . After a year and a fourth position in the table, he found a new employer in 1980 in the second division competitor Stade Rennes . There he was one of the top performers of a team that was fighting for promotion; when they reached this in 1983, Dufour also managed to win the first title of his career thanks to the second division championship. Given his age, however, the 31-year-old decided against returning to the top French division and instead stayed in the second division with his departure to EA Guingamp . He had a regular seat until he was out due to injury and was replaced by Didier Heyman ; after a season with only three contested games, his contract was not extended in 1986. Instead of Guingamp, it was the league competitor SC Abbeville who relied on Dufour and made him a regular player until the club signed Didier Heyman in 1987 and this ousted Dufour one more time. Then he decided in 1988 at the age of 36 after 162 first division games with two goals and 244 second division games with three goals to end his career.
