description

Didierea trollii grows with first prostrate, later with erect shoots and becomes up to 2 meters high or even higher. The 2 to 3 centimeters thick, gray-green shoots are provided with spirally arranged and flat warts. On these warts there are areoles with 1 to 3 centimeters long, gray-colored and radiating thorns. There are 5 elongated elliptical or obovate leaves. They are 15 to 25 millimeters long and 3 to 8 millimeters wide.

The whitish to greenish yellow flowers are very crowded together. The stigma is light pink in color and the fruits are 5 to 7 millimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Didierea trollii is distributed in the south of Madagascar , from Ampotaka to Ifotaka .

The first description of the species was established in 1961 by René Paul Raymond Capuron and Werner Rauh . There is an invalid description of the species as Didierea arachnoides .
