action

Captain Blaubär is rescued by dwarf pirates as a baby . After he is too big for the pirates' ship, they put him on a raft. Now he ends up on the Klabauterinsel, from which he flees to the sea. There he made the acquaintance of the so-called step thresholds , who taught him to speak and told him about Atlantis . Then Blaubär lands on the gourmet island. He was later rescued by Mac, a rescue dinosaur who took him on his flights as a navigator . Before Mac retires for reasons of age, he places the still ignorant Bluebear in a school. After graduating from school, he begins his adventurous wanderings towards Atlantis. At some point he meets an old school friend who is the gatekeeper of the city. In Atlantis you can see Captain Blaubär's talent for lies and Blaubär defeats his greatest adversary as a lying gladiator in a duel of lies . When there are no more opponents and you can no longer earn money with him, he is banned. He gets to the Moloch, on which he works as a slave. Again rescued by Mac and his friends from the retirement home, Blaubär can finally sink into the arms of his Blaubärin.

background

Walter Moers invented the character of Käpt'n Blaubär in 1991 for public television. Moers sold the rights in 1993 to Ravensburger- Verlag, which passed them on to WDR .

By relocating the character to a novel, Moers attempted to “get the captain back on track with adults”. After five years of creative work, Die 13 ½ Leben des Käpt'n Blaubär appeared in 1999 . The novel sold 750,000 times and was on the bestseller lists for 30 weeks.

The cartoon drew 1.3 million visitors to the cinemas. Other novels set on the fictional continent of Zamonia are Ensel and Krete , Rumo & Die Wunder im Dunkeln as well as The City of Dreaming Books , The Labyrinth of Dreaming Books and Der Schrecksenmeister .

For a long time, nobody could convince Walter Moers to release the rights to his Captain Blaubär for a musical production. Martin Lingnau and Heiko Wohlgemuth found his trust with their concept, which is closely based on the novel.

The Blaubär Musical took place in a tent from 2006-2007 (consisting of a smaller "lounge tent", which could also be booked for company celebrations, and the large tent with the stage, consisting of a virtual background and a map of Zamonia). The tent should move from Cologne to Frankfurt, from Frankfurt to Hamburg and to Berlin and Stuttgart. The guest performance in Frankfurt planned for February 2007 was canceled in order to extend the one in Cologne and then move directly to Hamburg. Ultimately, however, the company FKP Scorpio also had to cancel the guest performance in Hamburg, as the high production costs would have required a ticket price level that is unbearable for a family show.

For the period from December 2008 to January 2009, the tour was resumed through various cities. A total of 16 performances were planned. In 2012 the piece was performed on the Rathen rock stage.
