The Bergische Krankenkasse is a company health insurance company based in Solingen .
It looks after around 72,000 insured persons in North Rhine-Westphalia and Hamburg in one branch each in Solingen, Bergisch Gladbach and Wuppertal .
history
The health insurance company was created on January 1st, 1997 under the name BKK Bergisch Land through the merger of the Solingen company health insurance companies of the companies Kortenbach & Rauh and Rasspe GmbH . At that time, the employees were looked after directly on the company premises. From July 1, 2005 to December 31, 2008, the health insurance fund was called BKK Die Bergische Krankenkasse , and since January 1, 2009 the BKK prefix has been deleted.
The health insurance company can be traced back to its foundation around 1871, taking into account the previous insurance companies such as BKK Kortenbach & Rauh .
A new customer center in the Bergisch Gladbach pedestrian zone has been supplementing the existing customer centers in the inner cities of Solingen and Wuppertal since January 2011.
Contribution rates
Since January 1, 2009 the contribution rates have been standardized by the legislator. Until December 31, 2014, the BKK did not levy any additional contribution that is independent of the health insurance fund . In 2017 and 2018, it levied an income-related additional contribution in the amount of an above-average 1.39 percent of the contributory income, in 2019 it was 1.15 percent, and since 2020 it has remained an above-average 1.28 percent.
