The Chefs were a German band from Hamburg that was founded in 1982 by the composer and singer Patrick Heischrek .

history

The bosses were assigned to the Neue Deutsche Welle , but their sound stood out from the majority of this style through the instrumentation with drums , bass and synthesizer . Her lyrics were ironic and provocative. The singer and founder Heischrek, who was responsible for the music and lyrics, performed them in an extroverted and exaggerated style.

Texts like Oberficker , Chauvinist and Softies are failures called the women's movement on the scene. So it happened that the bosses' concert on May 27, 1982 in the Hamburg Club Logo was prevented by a demonstration led by the women’s group of the Hamburg AStA . In a well-prepared action, hundreds of women marched towards Logo . The police had to cordon off a large area around the club. The musicians and roadies were threatened and could not go back to the logo after dinner, press people were beaten and forced to release their film material. The singer Patrick was in the logo the whole time and was brought to safety through the back exit. Performances outside of Hamburg were peaceful.

A smear campaign against the band followed. Sections of the media and the women's movement insulted her as fascist and misogynistic, which ultimately led to the confiscation of her only record, no emotions please, by the Hamburg district court . Ultimately, the Gruner und Jahr publishing house , which sold the bosses' publications , also distanced itself from the band. All attempts by the bosses to enter into an exchange of ideas with the women's movement and the media in order to correct misunderstandings failed. The band stopped their activities in 1982.
