The Society (Political Journal)

The theoretical monthly Die Gesellschaft was published from April 1, 1924 to March 1933. It is the successor to the journal Die Neue Zeit (1883–1923, theory journal of the SPD) and the forerunner of the journal Die neue Gesellschaft (1954–1984). It was edited by Rudolf Hilferding (1877–1941) and published by Dietz-Verlag .

Hilferding, made famous early on through his work Das Finanzkapital (1910), was Reich Minister of Finance in the Stresemann I cabinet (August 13 to October 6, 1923, first cabinet of the grand coalition) . From 1920 to 1925 he was a member of the Provisional Reich Economic Council . From May 1924 to 1933 he was a member of the Reichstag . In the Müller II cabinet (June 28, 1928 to March 27, 1930), the second grand coalition of the Weimar Republic, Hilferding was finance minister until the end of 1929.
