The cricket and the mole is a children's story drawn and written by Janosch . It is based on the fable The Ant and the Grasshopper .

All summer a cricket does nothing but play its violin. When winter comes, she has nothing to eat and is terribly cold. She starts looking for winter quarters. She asks the stag beetle and the mouse, but they reject them because of their "useless" way of life. When the cricket comes to the mole, he is happy because he likes to listen to violin music. He grants her shelter for the winter and besides house music she makes herself useful by doing little housework.
