origin

Bechstein notes oral tradition and similarity to Hansel and Gretel , the source can not be determined according to Hans-Jörg Uther . Similar are Bechstein's The Golden Roebuck , The Boy Who Wanted to Learn Witchcraft . Bechstein also encounters the magical springwort in Die goldene Schäferei . The witch in the forest "all alone" sounds like the beginning of Jorinde and Joringel , the magic spells like The Dearest Roland .
