The Kugel was a late Expressionist German artists' association that was founded in Magdeburg in 1919 and existed until 1923.

Members

The association was initiated by young painters and graphic artists. This included the later famous artists Bruno Beye , Wilhelm Höpfner and Günther Vogler . Other members included the artist and architect Adolf Behne , the painters Max Dungert and August Bratfisch and the sculptor Rudolf Wewerka, as well as musicians and a few writers such as Maximilian Rosenberg or Robert Seitz and the later famous communist Magdeburg poet Erich Weinert . But also writers outside Magdeburg such as Johannes R. Becher ,Theodor Däubler and Max Herrmann-Neisse were associated with the association.

Literary events

The association held numerous public readings, the last verifiable one taking place on June 22, 1923. The focus of these events was on expressionist poetry.

Organ of publication

Only two editions of the association's publication organ, the “Zeitschrift für Neue Kunst und Dichtung” appeared in May 1919 and February 1920. In addition to expressionist poetry, they contain graphic works and programmatic prose.
