Robert Karl Wilhelm Seitz (born September 28, 1891 in Magdeburg , † April 22, 1938 in Lörrach , Baden ) was a German writer .

Life

After Seitz had spent his childhood in Magdeburg and in the Harz Mountains , he began a commercial apprenticeship in Magdeburg in 1906. In 1909 he found a job as a travel agent in the Magdeburg chicory coffee and chocolate factory Bethge & Jordan. Seitz showed an early interest in literature and wrote poems.

In 1919, through an appeal in the Magdeburg press, Seitz initiated the foundation of the Magdeburg artists' association Die Kugel , which existed from 1919 to 1923 and which included artists such as Franz Jan Bartels , Max Dungert and Bruno Beye . In 1921 Seitz published a volume of poetry with expressionist poetry "The heart in the eyes" in the Karl Peters publishing house in Magdeburg . In 1924 Seitz was transferred to Berlin . From 1927 he lived in the Wilmersdorf artists' colony . In 1928 he gave up his commercial position and became a freelance writer.

Seitz joined the group of writers that formed around the publisher Victor Otto Stomps and his publishing house Rabenpresse , founded in 1926 . This also included Horst Lange and his wife Oda Schaefer , Peter Huchel , Werner Bergengruen , for a short time Joachim Maass , Walther G. Oschilewski , Jens Heimreich , Rolf Bongs , Werner Helwig , Eberhard Meckel and Hans Gebser, who in Switzerland as a philosopher Jean Gebser became known.

From 1928 on, Seitz wrote various stories and articles for newspapers and magazines, but also set up radio plays and operas for radio. He worked with composers such as Paul Hindemith , Werner Egk and Paul Dessau . In 1931 he published the poetry anthology "Um uns die Stadt" together with Heinz Zucker . The topic of the work, on which 93 mostly unknown authors contributed, was the relationship between the individual and urban living space. Seitz made long trips to rural areas. He lived longer in East Prussia , Pomerania and Danzig as well as in villages on the Baltic coast. His literary work now turned to the writing of short stories and novels. In 1932 he achieved great success with the volume of novels "Bauernland". In his other works, too, he addressed the problems of technical civilization and idealized nature. In 1935 he received an academy prize for his work "Börshooper Buch", published in 1934. Seitz died in 1938 on a trip to Italy for study purposes and to support his impaired health.

The city of Magdeburg has named a street ( Robert-Seitz-Straße ) after him.
