reception

The review for Spiegel Online , in the Joachim Kronsbein Bach's Art of Fugue a . a. Calls "a tricky, elaborate work of almost mathematically decipherable beauty", closes with the plazet:

"A recording for connoisseurs, for the happy few who will enjoy judging details and the overall conception and arguing extensively."

- Joachim Kronsbein : Spiegel Online

With a few days of latency, Klassik Akzente came to a similarly benevolent judgment :

"A gem of his artist discography and at the same time a worthy debut on his new label Deutsche Grammophon."

- Classic accents

At a concert that followed about a month after the album was released, Wolfram Goertz recorded for Die Zeit :

"As in his current CD recording (DGG 477 7345), Aimard plays warming, loving, serving and in places excitingly beautiful."

- Wolfram Goertz : ZEIT ONLINE

Six years later, the recording was positively received, as shown in a review of Aimard's current work with a cumulative summary:

"The criticism showered him with praise for this, with praise for the transparency, the intellectual clarity and, last but not least, the modesty with which he approached this opus magnum."
