The artists' village Neumarkt an der Raab is located in Neumarkt an der Raab in the market town of Sankt Martin an der Raab in the Jennersdorf district in Burgenland . Individual buildings are under monument protection .

history

The planned demolition of an old smoke kitchen house led the painter Feri Zotter to found the Neumarkt an der Raab cultural association in 1964. Zotter turned the Rauchküchehaus into a studio house and thus laid the foundation stone for an artists' village. Artists and writers moved to work in the artist village. Peter Handke wrote here The fear of the goalie at the penalty kick . Peter Turrini and Wilhelm Pevny wrote the Alpine saga here . Even Gerhard Roth , Wolfgang Bauer , Werner Schwab , HC Artmann , Rosa Pock , Barbara Frischmuth , Gert Jonke , Alfred Kolleritsch , Ernst Jandl , Friederike Mayröcker and Gerhard Ruhm worked in the artists' village. Josef Hader and Andreas Vitasek were also guests .

Employees of the cultural association are or were: Alfred Schmeller (state curator), Feri Zotter, Eduard Sauerzopf , Johannes Jandrasits (representative of the cultural department of the federal state government), Alois Neubauer, Johann Lamm, Franz Vass, Christoph Donin, Gottfried Pröll, Martha Jungwirth , Johannes Wanke , Walter Pichler and Petra Schmögner.
